About The Artist
SpielArts features and promotes the art of Paul Spielman, a living, working artist from Colorado Springs, Colorado. USA. A bit of bio - "About one year before my graduation from The Art Institute of Seattle in 1984, I realized that my interests were extending beyond graphic design to fine art and illustration. While freelance work led to many illustrations for various magazines, I also began to search for a more complete approach to, and understanding of painting. My path fortunately led me to 3 years of oil painting and study with Seattle artist Ron Lucas. His insight concerning color, composition, value relationships, and painting from still life and models, started a momentum that continues in my work. After much realistic interpretation of subject matter, I now enjoy exploring simplification, and the accompanying abstraction involved. The approach is evolving, as any journey will, but the basics always apply. Along the way, I reluctantly saw the need for computer skills, and surrendered, bought a Mac, and began reading and experimenting. To my surprise, I enjoyed the process and now use the computer for illustration, web page design, and sometimes as a compositional tool before going to canvas. Recently, I have enjoyed working in Clay-to-Bronze with the figure. Sculpture adds a new dimension to consider, although my painting and drawing have been moving in a plane-oriented direction for some time. I welcome inquiries concerning Commissioned Paintings, Fine Art Prints, Sculpture, or Freelance design projects." Flash web Site Design is also a service I offer: See - www.Flash-Rite.com Thanks for your visit, . . . Paul Spielman.
About the Art Images
The paintings were done in oil, and the life drawings in conte. The figure-based Neo-Cubist paintings started with the series entitled "Neoteric". The faceted qualities result from my desire to use the figure in a fresh, kenitic way. In an effort to be purely figurative, each composition consists mainly of design elements that are suggested by the figure itself. ( No trees, barns, cute kids, dogs, or ponies ) Additional selections will be posted periodically. Stop by my site again to see what's new!
About the Originals and Prints
The Original oils are done on canvas or masonite board. The range and accuracy of colors you may see varies from one computer monitor to another. The original hues are vibrant and fresh.
The Giclee Print process creates an archival reproduction of the original oil painting. This is a durable, vibrant image on flexible cotton canvas or fine archival paper. The digital output is a high dpi, yielding a very accurate, sharp, and color-correct image. I personally oversee each print to verify quality. Your selection is signed by the artist and sent in a sturdy mailing tube, or framed, as you wish. Unrolled, the print is flat and ready for stretching and framing by your local framer. The small selections can be sent already framed and matted.
The Conte crayon life drawings are done with black artists conte, on 60 lb. artists bond paper. Your selection is signed by the artist and sent in a sturdy mailing tube.
